They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And an extremely flattering imitation is what I have for you today. Whether you want to call it Fall or Autumn, we all know the real name of this season is “Pumpkin Spice”. A couple of weeks ago, I popped into my favourite tea shop and they had a pumpkin pie matcha powder. They whipped me up a latte and I was in pumpkin heaven…until I read the ingredient list. …
Spiced Apple Porridge
When I first started eating paleo, there were some foods that were harder to give up than others. Oatmeal was definitely one thing that took me a long time to let go of. For me, creamy, warm oatmeal was a staple breakfast through the cool Fall and Winter. Sure eggs and bacon are a great stick to your ribs breakfast but sometimes there’s a breakfast void that only porridge can fill….
The Humble Fruit Crumble
In our house food is its own love language. We use food as a way to celebrate holidays, birthdays, job promotions. So when I ask M what kind of cake he wants for his birthday he never asks for a 7 layer, cake with filling and frosting. No no, my man is a simple man.

Quick Sausage & Peppers
Don’t let the pretty photos fool you, cooking around here ain’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Don’t get me wrong, I love to cook…but only on Saturday and Sunday. You see Monday to Friday, is occupied by everything other than cooking: breakfast on the run, walking the dog, subway riding, healthcare providing. By the time that’s all done, it’s time to head home, walk the dog again and before I know it, all I wanna do is eat some dinner and relax on the couch. Buuuut, I don’t actually want to have to make the dinner. One Last Summer Libation: Watermelon Margaritas
Tomorrow is the first day of fall so….I’m on a tight deadline to bring you this one last sip of summer. The time has come to bid farewell to long sunny days, drinks out on the patio and warm nights lit only by campfire. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fall. It ranks a very close second behind summer. But, this time of year is bittersweet for me. I wake up when it’s still dark not nudged to start my day by the sweet rays coming in through the window. The day starts and ends with a cool, crisp edge to it. I ain’t no fool, I know what that means, it means winter is coming and that’s the part I dread. despise. wish would never come.
In order to possessively hang onto summer just a while longer (at least another day), here’s a recipe for watermelon margaritas….
Garden Fresh Tomato Salad
It’s tomato season in Ontario and what a glorious time of year it is! I love tomatoes but the ones available all year round are tasteless. I refuse to purchase tomatoes out of season so when this time of year comes around, I get my fill of local tomato-ey goodness….
The Road to Paleo is Lined with Bacon
Paleo…you know that caveman diet, meat and veggies blah blah blah. I can get into how amazing eating paleo is and how much good it’s done for me but that’s kinda boring no?
Let me give you tears and screaming, pouting faces and disgruntled mumbles. Because that’s exactly what happened when M came home one day after work and proclaimed that he wanted to start eating a paleo diet.
WHAT?!?! 4 years of me trying to make us nutritious foods in different iterations, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, raw, fermented. I sprouted my own grains. I made my own nut milk. …
