This is my morning view for the first 30 days of 2018. We’ve moved to a small eco community in Costa Rica for the month of January. It’s a really exciting adventure that we undertook very mindfully. We wanted to travel as a family and really spend quality time together, we wanted to escape the freezing January temperatures and we wanted to have some space for reflection and intention setting before we both head back to work.
We have so much to be grateful for. We feel very lucky that both our active choices and our chance circumstances have allowed us to make this trip. In many ways, it is a homecoming for us because we get to live in a way we so often dream about. Here are few of the things that are really exciting for us:
- We live on an eco village which means very little goes to waste. We save all our organic waste and feed it to the chickens across the street. Any other biodegradable things (paper towels, animal scraps etc.), we bring to the community compost heap.
- Our neighbour has chickens and she lets us feed them whenever we want and collect eggs as needed. It’s the closest we’ve been in a long time to our food supply and it feels good.
- The organic garden on the property provides us with a basket of fresh greens every Wednesday morning. We’re eating a lot more soil than we do at home and it is so good for our gut health.
- There is a salt water infinity pool available to all community members—it is gorgeous!
- Our shower is outdoors which means we get to bathe under the sunshine with the birds chirping.
- There’s a mulberry bush just outside our house, we get to pluck berries as we go in and out.
- We’re right by the beautiful Rio Machuca, the healing power of water is real.
- The village’s water supply is spring water…the clearest, cleanest water straight from the tap. And that’s another thing that supports gut health.
- Costa Rica is so rich in fruits and vegetables. The peppers are so delicious! The papaya and pineapple are so sweet! We’re drinking coconut water straight from the coconut! It’s simply amazing to be stocking up on this kind of fresh, local nourishment.
It feels really good to manifest what we want. It feels really good to take pause and do things just for the fun of them. It wasn’t easy to write myself the permission slip to take this trip. There are always a lot of personal gremlins telling me I don’t deserve this. There are a lot of voices in my head warning me that this could be bad for my career or bad for our finances. There are also voices that interrogate me and ask me why I always want to do things differently. They vehemently question me: Why can’t you just go ahead and do it the way everyone else expects?
But that’s exactly what they are—gremlins and voices and interrogations. They are the way my fears, mostly irrational, communicate with me. And they have absolutely nothing to do with me actually living out my higher purpose. If my voices sound a lot like yours, I’m here to tell you that you do deserve what you want. You are worthy of pleasure, peace and joy. You are allowed to beat to the tune of your own drum and make the choices that fit you and your disposition. Try to tap in and listen to the voice that undeniably tells you what you want and nudges you in the direction of your dreams, that’s the real YOU. I can assure you, that no matter how scary the voices and gremlins are, you will not regret telling them off and moving toward what you really want. That’s where your true bliss lies.
Here’s to a year of feeling worthy of what YOU want and manifesting whatever blissful thing YOU dream up.
